Grow Your Own Cut Flower Patch

Fill your home with flowers,
grown in your own garden.

A little beauty, day after day.

Would you like to grow cut flowers for your home and to share with friends, family and neighbours?

We’ve thoughtfully designed a small cutting garden for you to plant and tend in your own space. Grown from seed in Whittington and lovingly overwintered, these plants are ready to settle into your soil and, once they’ve had a little time to grow, fill your home with flowers.

This ready-to-plant selection will bring colour and movement to your garden through spring and early summer — with posies and bouquets to gather for yourself and those around you.

We’ve put together two different-sized cutting garden bundles for you to choose from. Whether you’d like something simple or a little more abundant, you’ll find the options and payment links below.

At least 50% of each sale supports the maintenance of the Garden of Remembrance in Whittington, so the flowers you grow at home help nurture a place at the heart of the village.

The Cut Flower Patch Bundle

A curated selection of 18 hardy, overwintered plants to create your own cottage-style cutting garden. Designed for height, movement and seasonal variety, ready to plant and grow at home.

The Abundance Bundle

A fuller, more abundant cutting garden, with around 30 plants to bring height, movement and more stems to gather. Includes additional seasonal favourites for a varied and generous display.

The Cut Flower Patch Bundle

A thoughtfully balanced mix of hardy annual plants, designed to create a layered, cottage-style cutting garden at home and give you a varied selection of stems to gather through spring and early summer.

Each bundle includes 18 young plants, selected from a range of cottage cutting favourites and chosen for height, structure and seasonal succession. Your selection will be made up from varieties such as: Sweet Rocket, Cerinthe, Cornflower, Orlaya, Larkspur, Honesty, Corncockle, Briza maxima and Nigella — grown in 7cm and 9cm pots.

You’ll receive a simple planting guide so you know how tall your plants are likely to grow. Varieties grown for cutting tend to reach upwards for long stems and will usually benefit from support, such as staking or netting.

Plant them together as a relaxed cutting patch, or space them throughout your borders wherever you’d like a little more movement and colour.

The Abundance Cut Flower Patch Bundle

For a fuller planting and even more stems to gather, choose the Abundance Cut Flower Patch Bundle.

You’ll receive around 30 young plants, including a generous selection from the cutting palette above, along with additional seasonal varieties such as Canterbury Bells, Clary Sage and California Poppies.

Designed to create greater fullness, height and succession, this option gives you a richer mix to plant together or weave through your borders, filling your garden with movement, texture and lots of flowers to cut and enjoy.

As with the smaller patch, you’ll receive a simple planting guide and advice on supporting taller stems as they grow.

More Information about your cut flower bundles

Planting & Care

Plant into prepared soil in a sunny position and water in well.

Allow space between plants for airflow and a relaxed cottage-garden feel.

Water often and feed regularly with a weak liquid seaweed feed when young, and then with tomoato food when they are in flower.

Supporting Taller Plants

Many of these varieties grow tall for cutting and will benefit from support, particularly in windy gardens and open spaces.

An easy method is to place bamboo canes at the corners of a square shape (and along edges if needed), then run garden twine between them in a loose zig-zag or grid, so the plants grow up through the twine. Add another layer of twine as plants grow.

Do it before you think you need to as plants can grow quickly and supporting early is much easier than rescuing later.

Supporting the Garden of Remembrance

At least 50% of proceeds from these cut flower bundles will go towards soil, plants and ongoing care in the Whittington Garden of Remembrance, helping to maintain a calm and welcoming village space.

FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions.

Are these cut flowers or plants?

These are young plants for you to grow on at home. With a little sun and care, you’ll be cutting your own flowers in the weeks and months ahead.

Will I need to stake them?

Yes – many of these varieties grow tall for lovely long stems. A few bamboo canes and some garden twine in a loose zig-zag will keep everything upright and happy. It’s much easier to support them early than rescue them later.

Will they flower straight away?

Some will start a little earlier than others, but the mix is designed so you’ll have a beautiful variety flowering at the same time to cut and enjoy. They should bloom through to July, gradually slowing as high summer arrives and making space for whatever comes next in your garden.

Are they as large as garden-centre plants?

These have been grown outdoors and overwintered, rather than forced in a warm greenhouse. Some may look smaller now, but they are hardy and will put on strong growth as the days lengthen.

Do I need to follow the planting guide and create a ‘cut flower patch’?

Not at all. The guide is there to help if you’d like a simple structure, but you’re free to plant them however you choose. Tuck them into existing borders, fill gaps, or create a loose, cottage-style patch, they’ll be happy wherever they have sun and space to grow.

Can I choose specific varieties?

Not really. Patches are sold as curated mixes to keep the balance of height, texture and colour just right depending on what is ready at the time. Part of the joy is seeing how it comes together in your own garden.
