About Wend & Wild

A quiet offering to land, people, and place

We believe in the quiet power of nature to restore, reconnect, and inspire. We are a community interest company dedicated to growing plants from seed to support, maintain, and reimagine green spaces in our village and to gently grow a sense of purpose, well-being, and connection along the way.

Our vision is of a village where everyone can enjoy beautiful, wildlife-friendly spaces; where people feel rooted and proud of their surroundings; and where even the quietest members of our community can contribute to something bigger than themselves.

Our Mission

Our dreams for our work

  • To improve and maintain community green spaces in the village, investing in them now for future generations.
  • To grow plants from seed and use them to rejuvenate local green spaces.
  • To invite gentle participation, offering a flexible, mindful way for people to contribute, especially for those who may be isolated, feel on the margins of community life, or would benefit from gentle support improving their mental health and nurturing their well-being.
  • To fundraise through plant sales, using what we grow to sustain and expand our work.
  • To create a lasting sense of community and place, through care, creativity, and collaboration.

Why We Exist

In the face of declining local funding for public spaces, the green areas in our village risk becoming neglected or lost. At the same time, many people are quietly seeking purpose, connection, and well-being, but may not feel able to join traditional volunteer or community activities.

Wend & Wild was born from the belief that growing plants, from tiny seeds to blooming spaces, is not just practical, but profoundly healing.

By involving people in slow, seasonal, meaningful work, we create an accessible way to:

  • Reconnect with nature and self
  • Ease isolation and improve mental health
  • Offer back to the land and community, with no pressure or expectation

Wend (verb): To travel slowly, gently, in a purposeful direction – often with no rush, simply following the path as it unfolds.

At Wend & Wild, we embrace the spirit of wending – a meandering journey of growth, care, and quiet contribution. Whether tending seeds or stories, we move gently with the seasons, allowing beauty and belonging to unfold in their own time.

Doable, Meaningful Action
We make it easy for people to contribute, whether by growing, donating, planting, or simply being part of the story.

How We Work

about-page-growing

Growing

We sow seeds with care and grow plants suitable for community spaces, flowers, herbs, pollinator-friendly varieties, all raised with love and purpose.

about-page-participate

Welcoming Participation

People can take part in many ways: growing, planting, donating, helping, or just encouraging. Everyone contributes what they can.

about-page-planting

Planting & Maintenance

We look after local spaces, including a memorial garden, through weeding, planting, litter-picking, and seasonal care.

about-page-selling

Fundraising

We sell plants we’ve grown to raise funds to sustain the project, keep our village green, and invest in more community planting.

What We Are Working Towards

  • A thriving Garden of Remembrance as a beautiful, shared space of peace and reflection
  • A network of local volunteers growing from seed to support our work
  • Regular plant sales and pop-up stalls to fundraise and connect with the community
  • A living digital archive – Whittington Remembers – where we gather and share the stories of those who came before us, keeping their memory alive through research, reflection, and care.
  • Long-term partnerships with other groups, councils, and funders to expand and sustain our vision
